Top 5 Quarantivities

Quarantine has given everyone a lot of free time. Although some may be attending school online and/or working, there is still a lot of leisure time in between responsibilities. For those that have neither, like me, I’m sure you’ve also found yourself spending a lot of that free time on TikTok or binge-watching your new favorite Netflix series, which has probably become pretty tiring and boring, am I right? Or you’re online shopping – something I’ve come to do excessively. So here’s my personally tested top activities for quarantine.

Game Night

Whether you’re at home with your family or with your roommates, having a game night is my “go-to” activity at this time. Get competitive, create new memories, and bond! I’ve successfully bugged my roommates almost every night for the past month to play games with me. I’ve taken my online shopping habit for clothes and turned it into buying children’s games like Mouse Trap to playing card games such as Phase 10 and Exploding Kittens. These can all be found on Amazon and be delivered within days.

Get Some Sun

Vitamin D, you need it! Staying inside 24/7 isn’t good for you! If you have a pool, go swimming or tanning. If you want to relax, sit down to read a book, paint, or Put some headphones in and start working out. What better way to conquer quarantine than by staying active? Make it a group thing where everyone goes outside to get some sun, and don’t forget the sun lotion if you’re prone to burning! A little fresh air never hurt anybody.

Try New Recipes

Now is the time to perfect your baking or cooking skills. Make your own personalized recipe book and write down everything you like to eat. If you tend to eat when you’re bored, try some healthy snacks or meals that you’ve never had the time to learn. Or you could make your family some delicious desserts. Practice makes perfect, so why not start with what you eat?

One of my all time favorite dishes has become salmon and asparagus! I use the recipe from Natalie’s Kitchen.

My favorite dessert has always been cookies and ice cream. If you’re a BJ’s pizookie fan, here’s a great recipe that you can customize to your own tastes!

Organize Your Room (and possibly your life)

Spring cleaning? More like quarantine cleaning. Redecorate your room, move things around. Change is good! Get rid of those old papers and worksheets you kept from years past but have no meaning now. Wash your makeup brushes and get rid of old clothes you never wear. Clean your shoes so they’ll be crisp and squeaky clean once you’re able to see your friends again. My mother used to always tell me that if your room is cleaned and organized, your mind will follow. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I always feel better when my house is clean.

Get Old-Fashioned and Write Some Letters

Quarantine can feel really lonely now that you’re not seeing your favorite people all the time. Texting, phone calls, and Facetime are always a good way to stay in contact, but why not make it fun? Write some creative and badass letters to your loved ones, especially those you don’t talk to as often. Good ‘ole fashioned letters are some of my favorite memory keepsakes. They’re so personal and can make someone feel special.

These are just a few of my favorite fool-proof activities to keep me out of bed and off of the internet. They also keep me from going insane while being at home every second of the day. Staying in bed will make you feel even more bored or alone during this quarantine period, so get up and do something fun!
